NORMANDY 1944 RESEARCH COMMUNITY

RESEARCH PROJECT

Looking for veterans and their families.

Currently we are working on a research project covering the fighting on the Cotentin Peninsula. Not just Utah Beach and the Airborne landings, but also the capture of Sainte-Mere-Eglise, Carentan, Montebourg, La Haye-du-Puits and many other towns and villages between D-Day and early July. We are trying to cover both US and German perspective on these events, but we need your help.

Some events of this period have been covered in great detail in documents, books and films. Many more events and formations have however received too little attention. This has created an imbalance we are hope to, at least partially, correct.

Official documents in archives only give us the big picture of the campaign, but many details have never been recorded. The stories of the individual soldier make history real and tangible, something records can never do. These individual stories often also include crucial details that give new insights in what happened, and why, providing answers were official documents fall short.

Unfortunately many of these individual stories remain unknown and with every day more of those stories are lost forever. If you are a veteran, a family member or otherwise have information you want to share, you are welcomed and encouraged to do so.

Of course you may also contact us if you are looking for information yourself. You will not be the first and where possible we will try to answer your questions or help you contact others who might be able to help. Some (family members of) veterans have questions we cannot answer. Maybe you can!

No matter where your interest comes from, you may all contact us here: email
