Panzerkampfwagen 35R (f)
Sd.Kfz.731(f) - Renault 35
In 1940 German troops captured large numbers of French tanks. One of the more numerous types was the Renault 35.... .etc, etc. These vehicles were also used without turret as artillery tracktors and some where used to build a light Panzerjäger.
On D-Day two units in the invasion area where equipped with such vehicles. 19 were present with Panzer Ersatz und Ausbildungs Abteilung 100 and 2 more served with Panzer Abteilung 206. Being obsolete by 1944, these tanks where no match for most allied armor and had little inpact on the battle. Before the end of June both Battalions had seized to exist. Pz.Abt.206 was trapped in Cherbourg, while Pz.Abt.100 was worn out in a series of battles against American paratroopers on the southern part of the Cotentin Peninsula.
